HPCO Accreditation Program open to hospices outside of Ontario – Congratulations to Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society!

Prince George Hospice Palliative Care staff

Hospice Palliative Care Ontario is thrilled to announce that Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society achieved HPCO Accreditation for their Hospice Residence! This marks the first time a non-Ontario hospice has received accreditation.

“Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society can assure our communities that Accreditation serves as an indicator of commitment to continuous learning and improvement,” says Steve Henderson, Board President of Prince George Hospice. He goes on to say that, “PGHPCS is subject to an evaluation of our processes, practices, and procedures against the Accreditation standards to ensure our care and programs are best in class across the region and province.”

The HPCO Accreditation program, which is based on HPCO Hospice Standards that have been developed and revised in consultation with member hospices and sector experts, assures the delivery of consistent, high quality hospice palliative care. Organizations that offer In-Home Hospice, Visiting and/or Hospice Residence are encouraged to register and participate.

Securing HPCO Accreditation indicates to health-care professionals and funders that your organization is committed to achieving and maintaining the highest levels of service provision while embedding ongoing learning and quality improvement processes. Originally designed for Ontario hospices, the program consists of valuable quality measures that are applicable for hospices in any Canadian jurisdiction.

“Accreditation was somewhat validating that a lot of what we already were doing was meeting the standards, and some of our practices improved as a result of being part of the process. Being accredited to me means that we took time, effort and expense to ensure that we are meeting the highest standards possible to ensure quality care for our guests and their families.” – Erin Anderlini, Director of Operations, Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society
“Knowing we’re part of a standard of care that meets the requirements. I’m proud of that!” Cathy (RN), Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society
