To all the delegates that attended conference April 28-30:
It was great to see so many people at this year’s conference. A sincere thank you to the 520 delegates who attended the 2014 Hospice Palliative Care Ontario Conference! You told us through the conference that it was a first class, high quality educational event. You also told us that the calibre of the workshops, posters, and oral presentations was outstanding! Thanks to the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North for exceptional service and excellent food. Our closing gala and the The Dave La Fame Show was an evening of laughter and music with many people staying after the show ended to dance and have fun.
Our keynotes, Sameer Sinha, Harvey Chochinov, Hsien Seow, Jose Pereira and Lorraine Behnan made us think, question, explore ideas, reflect, and laugh. Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care reflected on the progress that all of the delegates have made in improving hospice palliative care in Ontario and thanked everyone for their dedication.
All registered delegates will receive an email by end of day on May 1 with a link to the session hand outs and to a conference evaluation survey. We truly value your feedback so please do take five minutes to complete the survey when you receive the link.
More than an educational event, I look forward to Conference as a time to connect with colleagues and old friends, and to make new acquaintances. I noticed that many people at conference, myself included, took time for quiet conversations in the hallways and in the lobby. People were exchanging ideas and talking about their successes and challenges. The most frequent comment made to me was that there was a buzz, energy about the events. One colleague commented that there was synchronicity across the four content streams. Another delegate said the workshops reflected much of the work done to advance the Declaration of Partnership.
The comment that resonated with me the most was from Dr. Hsien Seow who said “we should not wait for the change agents to arrive, we should step forward and lead.”
Thanks again for coming to conference and making it such a special event.
