A recent study conducted in Southwestern Ontario by Cait and colleagues (2024), attempted to explore the impact of social, ethnic and demographic changes to understand how this may affect volunteer recruitment, and representation. The research team interviewed volunteers, community members and staff to determine the differences of cultural views on the hospice setting. Certain barriers such as the limited information available and volunteer representation were identified as limiters of ethnocultural participation. Ongoing communication and collaboration could reduce these barriers leading to better inclusive care. The authors suggest that the study findings could be applied more broadly to promote culturally sensitive care and expanded volunteer recruitment. Read more…
